Requiem Mass

Requiem Mass
Dignitaries from around the world pray during the funeral; as seen: Albert II & Queen Paola of Belgium, Prince Henrik of Denmark, President Jacques Chirac of France and Ms. Bernadette Chirac, President Jorge Sampaio of Portugal, President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush of the United States, President Arnold Rtel of Estonia, and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, later Pope Benedict XVI led the Mass of Requiem on April 8 at 10:00 a.m. CEST (08:00 UTC), by virtue of his office as Dean of the College of Cardinals. He was also one of Pope John Paul II’s closest friends and carried out most of the Pope’s duties during his final illness. Concelebrating in the Mass of Requiem were the College of Cardinals (the number of members that were present has been variously given as 157 and 164) and the patriarchs of the Eastern Catholic Churches.
As the pope must be buried between the fourth and sixth day after his death, Friday was chosen as the last possible date. The Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica was the first Mass of Requiem for a pope to be televised live in almost every nation in the world.
The event had an estimated viewership of over 2 billion people; the Catholic Church claims only 1.1 billion among its members. The funeral of John Paul II was by far the largest funeral in the history of the world. In lieu of a public viewing at the Basilica of St. John Lateran, as was tradition, immense digital screens instead broadcast the Mass of Requiem and subsequent Rite of Interment to those in the pope’s cathedral church outside the confines of Vatican City. The same digital screens were hoisted at several sites in Rome, including the Circus Maximus, and at specially designated campsites outside the city for the millions of pilgrims who descended on the city.
The funeral was perhaps the most-watched live event in the history of television. Because people in the United States understood that the service took place during the early morning hours on their side of the Atlantic, many awoke to view the funeral, and others taped it for a historical record. In addition, several television networks in the Americas rebroadcast the funeral later in the day.

It’s gonna be interesting to see

It’s gonna be interesting to see how this meme spreads. This is dangerous territory. A guy predicts a bomb is gonna blow up in the lobby of the Goldman Sachs building - and then a bomb blows up in the lobby of the Goldman Sachs building. Who’s legally culpable?

Somtimes you pay a price for being the smartest guy in the room.

I’m sure Obama reads Clusterfucknation.com first thing every Monday morning, so he’s probably mulling how to take Jim’s advice at this very moment.

At the pace he mulls, though, it may be too late.

Maybe he should send Keifer Sutherland out to Troy, New York and find out what Jim knows.

The problem has been that for at least a generation we bought into the bullshit coming from Wall Street and the business world in general it’s in our economic interest to offshore our industries to third world crapholes and make our living selling each other houses and stocks and bonds. That dog of a business model don’t hunt, never did, never will except for the thieves and buillshit artists in the securities and real estate industries. Now we see the results of our own idiocy and the thievery of our managerial class. As for anybody rising up in arms, there’s no chance. We are drug addled, obese, docile ninnies. We’ve lost the capacity to think let alone act. Maybe there’ll be isolated eruptions of violence but nothing organized or effective.

I’m glad you are all liking

I’m glad you are all liking what I wrote. I forgot one part and that was as Gerard Butler was walking to the podium a woman (from the audience) handed him what appeared to be, a satin sachet (you can actually see that in Picture 20 (from the top). He thanked her for them and referred to them specifically but I can’t remember exactly what he said..uggghhhh.

One thing is I walked away from this experience thinking: TAPE RECORDER next time, LOL.

Hello, and thanks for sharing that. I was at the prem in London, couldn’t believe I was seeing THE MAN! I then saw the film yesterday.

I too consider myself an honorary Canadian, my son lives in Toronto, just off Yonge St! We came back to England last Thursday, wish we’d arranged a different date and had included TIFF.

The Bulga collection is now dubbed

The Bulga collection is now dubbed as one of the “it bags” of today’s fashion as supported by interests of top female celebrities. The increase in audience is also seen in a good number of features in major fashion magazines and the title of “Bag of the Moment” given by People Magazine.

The Bulga handbag, though well crafted, is merely the beginning of Natalia Konovalova’s dreams. This young designer is smart to start small and slow in hopes of raising the name into a full clothing line for women that would stand among the likes of Gucci. Until then, Natalia will continue to create for the essence of a woman and the need Louis Vuitton Designer Handbags: Leather Luxury  Through out the years, Louis Vuitton handbags have been etched with impeccable artistry and skill. In the tradition of quality workmanship, Louis Vuitton handbags have become the standard in luxury travel. And the innovation behind it began in Paris%u2026

Early 1800’s, a trained luggage packer for upper class Parisian families was appointed by Napoleon III to pack for the Empress Eugenie. With a vast knowledge in bags, he began designing luggage for rich Parisian travelers. His name was Louis Vuitton. He was a pioneer with his early inventions of flat, air-tight and easily stackable luggage. In 1854, as luggage began to rise into a new level of design, Louis Vuitton built his own luggage design house. Since then Louis Vuitton handbags gained much respect and adoration mainly from the upscale population. An 1867 World’s Fair bronze medal and a gold medal in 1889 earned the Louis Vuitton name recognition throughout international fashion community. It was only in 1892 when Louis Vuitton handbags first came out. Later, the Louis Vuitton luggage company grew into a leather empire and the Louis Vuitton handbag became no less than royalty among leather.

See my earlier post for more info.

Ridiculously, I won’t be able to make it; I’m going out of town and won’t be back yet. But I met a very nice guy, DJ McDonald, in the Facebook Dance Bloggers group and he’s going to cover it for me!

I’m really interested to hear — of course what Pasha and Anya do, and Travis, and Twitch, and Sabra, and Eugene and Maria — but also how audiences like David Parsons’s Caught. I’m sure they’ll go absolutely wild over it. This may be a way to bring modern dance and ballet to a wider audience, integrating it with forms of dance that are more popular and accessible right now, like ballroom! So I’m really glad Tony and Melanie are exposing fans of ballroom and SYTYCD to something like this. Big huge kudos to them! And with Sabra now a part of Cedar Lake, who knows what future collaborations could happen…

Anyway, if anyone else is able to go (Shim?! — or any other fans of ballroom, SYTYCD, or Parsons — or modern dance — expose yourself to ballroom!, and it’s on a Monday night, so is not going to interfere with most other dance performances in the city), please please let me know what you think and I will post your thoughts!

Go here for tickets.
